Funding is available for local governments and nonprofits that are eager and ready to work on a community-improving project that can be started and completed before year’s end.

Wild Lifesaving Crosswalks
— Chickens and pedestrians aren’t the only ones crossing roads to get to the other side. Across the United States, bridges, underpasses and culverts have been created to help animals avoid vehicle traffic.
A Tribal Broadband Opportunity
— Leading Edge Fellowships pair recent humanities PhDs with nonprofit organizations. The Institute for Local Self-Reliance will be hosting a fellow to research and help improve internet access in Indian Country. (Like the AARP Community Challenge, the application deadline is March 15.)
An Inspiring Journey
— Artist Imran Nuri drove to all 48 contiguous U.S. states to photograph 1,000 strangers and ask each one for life advice.
