The age-friendly communities program in the city of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio, has discovered and achieved a lot in its five-plus years as a member
of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. Others can learn from the team’s efforts, including its #PositiveAging campaign to counter ageism and age stereotypes.

Equip, Train, Connect
When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down senior centers and other activity hubs for older adults, the
age-friendly program for New Hampshire’s Mount Washington Valley stepped up to equip older residents with laptops and similar devices, provide them with the needed tech skills and keep them connected to friends, family and the community at large.

Flood Money
— The Federal Emergency Management Agency is giving money to homeowners with repeatedly flooded properties in Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania to prepare for floods — or relocate. Called the Swift Current initiative, the funding is part of the flood mitigation allocation included in last year’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
