Anyone can join AARP Michigan and local
partners for a two‑session webinar about
gardening and creating garden spaces for
people of all abilities. The June 16 event
will review the basics, such as how to read
plant tags and choose the right plants for a
location. The June 25 session will focus on
planting a garden, maintaining it, and using
natural methods to control weeds and
pests.
The annual AARP
Community
Challenge has funded dozens of of
community garden projects (including
the Bowman, North Dakota garden
pictured here). Take a look at
several garden projects — and
then discover even more by visiting
the Livable Map. (Do a keyword
search for "community
gardens.")
This free, 32-page, photo- and
information-filled publication can help
elected officials, government staff, nonprofit
organizations and neighbors build and sustain
community gardens as intergenerational outdoor
spaces.
