Trick or Treat, Walk Audit Your Street!

Halloween provides a great opportunity for conducting a community walk audit of a street or neighborhood. Can ghouls and ghosts of all ages safely walk from one home to another? While the tots clamor for treats, accompanying adults can assess the sidewalk and crosswalk situation, note if more streetlights are needed, and identify where having a bench would be helpful for taking a brief rest (or candy break).

Aging in Place — When older adults move to a different home, it’s usually to downsize or because they need one-story or assisted living-style housing. Most stay in or close to their community. Source: U.S. Census Bureau ►

Free Repair Loans for Fair Rents — Pennsylvania landlords with 15 or fewer rental units can receive loans of up to $50,000 per unit to fund repairs, and they won’t have to repay the loans so long as they don’t raise the rent above 3 percent annually for 15 years. Source: Next City ►
