The number of family caregivers has surged in recent years, with 63 million Americans now providing support for a family member—an increase of 20 million in the last decade. The necessary support family caregivers provide ranges from activities of daily living (e.g., help with eating, dressing, toileting) to increasingly complex medical and nursing tasks.
