More than 17 million adults ages 50 and older rely on Medicaid to provide health care services that would otherwise be unaffordable. The program provides coverage for home care aides, adult day services, certain transportation services, home modifications, assistive technology, case management, and other key supports that help older adults stay in their homes and communities. Meanwhile, Medicaid program dollars have been shown to provide stability in the health care system itself, particularly in lowering rates of rural hospital closures.
