PPI’s
monthly Data Digest examines employment trends from the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for adults ages 55 and
older. The latest report notes that the U.S. economy lost
92,000 jobs in February, a sharp drop from the 126,000
jobs added in January, but the 55+ unemployment rate
increased only slightly from 3.2 percent to 3.3 percent.
Meanwhile, almost a quarter of jobseekers, both younger
and older, were long-term unemployed (24.4 percent of
jobseekers ages 16 to 54, compared to 24.6 percent of
jobseekers ages 55 and older).
