business services, and wholesale and retail trade employ
the largest numbers of workers, with a significant share
of those industries’ workers being ages 50 and
older. Other industries, though smaller in size, have a
disproportionately older workforce. The trends and
differences matter, with implications for older worker
employment in the years ahead as some industries grow and
others shrink.
