FRAUD

AI technology enables scammers to mimic real people by using deepfakes, voice cloning, and realistic phishing, leaving almost anyone vulnerable to identity theft. Now, more than ever, it’s important to know how scammers use AI, how identity theft happens, and what you can do to protect yourself.

THE FAKE OUT

Scammers use AI to create fake voices, photos and videos that, when done well, can make you believe that person is a loved one or someone you know. They can also create official-looking emails from institutions you trust and do business with.

THE CRIME

Once scammers capture a person’s likeness or voice, they use it to create a crisis, like a grandchild in trouble to extract money from a concerned grandparent. The same goes for an “official” email or text that informs you of a “locked” bank account.

THE SHIELD

Intuition is your best protection. Never take immediate action without first verifying the legitimacy of the claim. Families should share a unique code word to use as proof. Never click on a link without contacting the institution that initiated it.
